Not all windscreen damage needs a full replacement. A chip or small crack can often be repaired with resin injection if it meets these criteria:
If the damage is larger, in the driver's vision area, or has already spread, replacement is the only safe option. We will give you honest advice when we inspect the damage.
The chipped area is thoroughly cleaned to remove moisture, dirt, and debris.
A special clear resin is injected into the chip under pressure, filling the entire damaged area.
The resin is cured with a UV light, hardening it to the strength of the original glass.
The surface is polished smooth and the repair is inspected for clarity and strength.
In New Zealand, a repaired chip is acceptable for a Warrant of Fitness (WOF) if the repair is clean, the damage is not in the critical vision area, and the chip is under 50mm. Our repairs are done to a standard that passes WOF inspection. If the damage is in the critical area, we will recommend replacement rather than repair.
Most comprehensive insurance policies in NZ cover chip repair with no excess. This means you pay nothing out of pocket, and it usually does not affect your no-claims bonus. We can invoice your insurer directly for the repair. We work with 36+ NZ insurance companies.
