Can It Be Repaired or Does It Need Replacing?

The answer depends on the size, location, and type of damage โ€” and whether your vehicle has ADAS technology.

Damage That Can Usually Be Repaired

  • A single stone chip up to 25mm in diameter
  • A short crack under 30cm away from the edge
  • Damage not in the driver's direct line of sight
  • A bull's-eye or half-moon chip

Damage That Requires Replacement

  • Cracks longer than 30cm
  • Any damage in the driver's line of sight
  • Edge cracks (which spread rapidly)
  • Multiple chips or complex cracking
  • A smashed or shattered windscreen

What About ADAS Vehicles?

If your vehicle has a forward-facing camera, damage near that area may interfere with ADAS functions even after repair. We assess this as part of our inspection.

Pitting and Hazing

Over time windscreens accumulate micro-scratches from road grit and cleaning products, creating a haze that causes severe glare when driving into sun or oncoming headlights. If your windscreen looks clear but causes you to squint, it may be time for a replacement.
